Money & Millennials

With all of the politics and polling going on, we finally have a survey that has some good news for a change. A new “Money Under 35” national survey shows an improved financial picture for young adults and shines a spotlight on the benefits of finishing college.

Today on Indy Style, Sarah Ducich, an expert on higher education financing and the Senior Vice-President for Public Policy for Navient, shares what this good news means for millennials and their families.

About Sarah E. Ducich:

Ms. Ducich is senior vice president for public policy and government relations for Navient. She is responsible for the development and advancement of the company’s legislative and policy goals. Among the topics she has advocated for are streamlined repayment options to reduce complexity for borrowers and increase engagement, and easier methods to enroll in and recertify federal income-driven repayment programs.

Prior to May 1, 2014, and the separation of Navient from Sallie Mae, Ms. Ducich held a similar position at Sallie Mae. Ms. Ducich was one of the principal authors of Sallie Mae’s well regarded research on how American families save and pay for college. At Navient, she continues that leadership with its annual research on the financial health of young adults, Money Under 35.

Prior to joining Sallie Mae in 1998, Ms. Ducich consulted on federal budget policy for several national firms, was deputy budget director with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1990 to 1993, a senior democratic staff member of the Senate Budget Committee, from 1987 to 1990, and a budget examiner with the Office of Management and Budget from 1984 to 1987.

Ms. Ducich received her Master’s in Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin and her B.A. with honors in Mathematics from Whitman College. Ms. Ducich is married to Don Blanchon with whom she is raising their two daughters. They live in Washington, DC, and devote many of their scarce leisure hours to supporting and coaching youth soccer. Ms. Ducich received the John Koskinen/DC Stoddert Soccer Volunteer of the Year award.
