Deputies: Man attacked landlord with samurai sword

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man was arrested on Sunday after authorities say he attacked his landlord with a samurai sword.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called at 7:11 p.m. on Saturday evening to a disturbance in the 7600 block of SW 67th Avenue in Garden Home. It was reported that Gregory Barsaloux, 56, had used a “samurai type” sword in an attempt to injure his landlord, authorities said.

When deputies arrived, they were able to secure the landlord and found him unharmed.

Authorities said they then tried to speak with Barsaloux, but he armed himself with a rifle and started making threats to harm deputies.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office evacuated neighbors.

Other law enforcement officers were called in to assist with the situation. After three hours of attempted communication (some via phone), Barsaloux came out of the house with a shotgun, deputies said.

Authorities ordered him to drop the firearm, and he did. The suspect was then taken into custody.

Barsaloux was booked into the Washington County Jail on a $250,000 bail and faces preliminary charges of first-degree attempted assault, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree criminal mischief.
