Car runs into apartment building following police pursuit

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – A short police pursuit ended with a Ford Focus in an apartment building Monday evening.

According to the Indiana State Police, the pursuit began in the 3600 block of North Post Road around 8:15 p.m.

The pursuit began after an ISP trooper attempted to pull over a vehicle, driven by 37-year-old Michael Bland for a minor traffic violation. Bland refused to pull his vehicle over and a chase then ensued. The suspect proceeded to move through the intersection of 42nd Street and North Post Road.

However, the chase ended minutes later when Bland attempted to turn into the an apartment complex’s parking lot, but due to excessive speed, the car ran into the building.

Police said while there were people in the apartment at the time, there were no injuries.

Bland is in custody. He faces preliminary charges for resisting law enforcement with a vehicle.
