Carmel completes path project for bikes, pedestrians

CARMEL, Ind. (AP) – A multi-use path project has been completed, providing a trail connection between downtown Zionsville and Central Carmel.

Carmel officials said the project includes a bike and pedestrian bridge over Williams Creek. The project partially was funded by a federal grant.

Combined with the state’s U.S. 31 project, bicyclists and pedestrians can travel from the east border of Carmel at White River across the city and into Boone County.

Mayor Jim Brainard said the new path’s completion “will hopefully spur other communities to think big when it comes to connecting bike trails across the Central Indiana region.”

Carmel is working to improve its reputation as a bicycle-friendly community. It has more than 180 miles of multi-use paths and trails along streets, corridors and greenways.
