‘Fight like a girl’ dodgeball tournament aims to raise breast cancer awareness

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Breast Cancer Awareness Month is drawing to a close, but events geared toward raising awareness for the cause aren’t done yet.

Plainfield SkyZone teamed up with IU Health Wednesday evening for their “Fight like a girl” dodgeball tournament.

The women had the chance to jump around, throwing and dodging balls coming their way as a way to support local breast cancer patients.

Everyone was asked to bring their A-game and their best pink costume to show off at the event.

Plainfield SkyZone owner Joanna Kingery said she wanted to reach out to the community and offer something different.

“There’s a lot of breast cancer awareness events that are runs or walks coming out and basically bouncing for boobies is something a little different and we think maybe to reach a younger crowd,” Kingery said.

Kingery noted her team didn’t have a specific goal they were aiming to reach at the event. Rather she wanted to think of it as a way to spread awareness to women of the importance of monthly self-exams.
