Restoration campaign for Ayres clock exceeds goal

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The historic Ayres clock at the corner of Washington Street and Meridian Street will finally be fixed.

Indiana Landmarks initially launched a $20,000 campaign on October 5 to fix the clock, as none of the four faces display the correct time.

After more digging, they found that the historic clock from 1936 would be needing about $60,000 in restoration with cleaning to the bronze casing and maintaining periodic upkeep.

They reached their goal on October 26, making it the fastest restoration campaign in the history of Indiana Landmarks.

The clock will now see new movements, a controller, properly balanced hands and four working faces that replicate the originals.

The repairs are scheduled to begin November 7.
