Father holds vigil one year after son was murdered

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The father of a man murdered exactly one year ago held a vigil to honor his son. 34-year-old Greg Wilson Jr’s killer, still hasn’t been found.

Wilson was shot outside a home north of the intersection of 30th and Capitol.

They hope to not only honor Wilson, but also raise awareness about senseless killings in the city.

Greg Wilson Sr. carries an 8 by 10 framed picture of his son as he walks up the sidewalk where one year ago, his son, who was named after him, was shot and killed. Greg Sr. stops at his unwanted destination.

“This is the spot where he died,” he says.

” My son took his last breath here. So, yes, it is very impactful. Very painful,” he explains.

Greg Sr. doesn’t know why his son was at the home. But he believes he went inside and on his way out, he was murdered in the middle of the day.

“It’s broad daylight, 12:00. You can see we’re out here now. How much traffic has come by us? It’s impossible to think, being the same day, the same time, that no one saw this murder,” he questioned.

That’s why he keeps going back; for answers. He also has another mission.

“We have to find a way working together the community and IMPD to solve these murders. We don’t want anyone to become desensitized to it every time someone is murdered. Just think, it can only happen to those people. It can happen to anybody,” said Wilson.

Although he will never get his son back, Greg Sr. hopes through his son’s death, a lesson will be learned.

“It’s so important that we don’t let these people live in our community. We don’t let them have any peace. We have to start turning in these people who have taken lines in our community,” he said.
