Four taken to hospital in Richmond crash

RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) – Four people were taken to the hospital following a crash in Richmond Monday morning.

According to the Indiana State Police, the accident happened in the area near US 27 and I-70.

Police said a 2009 Buick, driven by 75-year-old Nancy Jo Whirley, had turned left from Arba Pike and was then attempting to go south on US 27.  However, Whirley had turned into the path of 2012 Ford car, driven by 32-year-old Claire Baker, that was headed north.

The passenger in the Buick, 75-year-old Joseph Whirley, was transported to the hospital with several fractures. The driver of the Buick, Nancy Whirley, was also taken to the hospital, with complaints of pain.

Claire Backer, the driver of the Ford, was taken to the hospital for complaints of pain to her leg and torso.  A 14-year-old passenger in the Ford car was transported to hosptial for a hip injury.

Baker did receive a citation for operating a vehicle without insurance.
