3 Lawrence schools go on lockdown after nearby shooting

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – Police in Lawerence are investigating a shooting that caused three area schools to briefly go on lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the shooting happened in the area of 56th Street and Shadeland Way before 1:20 p.m at at Marathon Gas Station.

Three area schools went on lockdown, including Harrison Hill, Belzer and Lawrence Central. The lockdown was lifted around 1:30 p.m.

Police say they believe two people were in a physical fight before the shooting. The victim was shot in the midsection. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Officials with the Lawerence Police Department say reports of a suspect vehicle was seen fleeing the area. Two suspects were taken into custody.

It’s not clear what the two individuals were fighting about.

Police say the schools went on lockdown as a precaution.
