Girl bitten by dog gets Halloween re-do

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WISH) — A New Castle 4-year-old girl was bitten by a dog on Monday afternoon and ended up in the hospital.

While her family was concerned about her health, she was most upset about missing out on Halloween.

The community came together Tuesday to give her a Halloween re-do.

Cailynn is already back home from the hospital and expected to make a full recovery.

But friends of the family wanted to make sure the ER wasn’t the only memory she’ll have of this Halloween.

The events of Cailynn’s day are apparent, namely the gash under her eye left from a neighborhood dog.

“She was across the street playing at my cousin’s house and a dog came up into the yard and I think she went to pet it or hug it or something and it attacked her,” Cailynn’s mother, Sheena Moore said, “It was about 3:30, I was getting ready to call her in to get her costume on and get ready.”

Instead of getting into her costume to go trick-or-treating, the family ended up in an ambulance heading to Indianapolis.

Luckily, her injuries weren’t life threatening.

“As of right now, they said she’s fine, it didn’t damage the eye,” Moore said.

But Cailynn still wanted to spend the holiday with her friends.

“She was upset since she missed the trick-or-treating,” family friend, Amy Page said.

“I went over there at nine this morning and she wanted to go walk around the block to go trick-or-treating and she was upset there was no kids out and no cars,” family friend, Sierra Pribble said.

So Page made a Facebook event and the community came up with a second Halloween, complete with candy and costumes.

“Everybody just pitched in together which was good and surprising for the community to come together like they did so that way she could have her trick-or-treat night,” she said.

“I’m really excited,” Moore said, “I’m glad this happened, she really deserves it.”

As for the dog that bit her, the family said it’s been taken to the pound.

They don’t know the owners, but said they live in the neighborhood.

No word yet from police on possible charges.
