Mother arrested for leaving child at Taco Bell

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A mother has been arrested after police said she left her child at a fast food restaurant in Lafayette.

Lt. Brian Gossard with the Lafayette Police Department said it happened Friday evening at the Taco Bell on Teal Road.

After receiving the call about the 7-year-old child, officers located Beth Helton, 35, as she pulled up to her house on Iroquois Trail. Gossard said she appeared to be intoxicated.

Helton faces preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated and neglect.
