Records: Woman offered cash, car to have ex-husband killed

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A woman in Oregon arrested in a murder for hire plot offered a would-be assassin cash, a car and more to kill her ex-husband, according to court records.

In October, the FBI sought a search warrant for a cellphone that may have evidence of the murder for hire plot, according to court documents.

The investigation started in June 2015. The former husband of Pamela Jean Gygi contacted Utah police and said someone told him Gygi wanted to have him killed.

Their divorce settlement required the ex-husband to take out a $100,000 life insurance policy naming Gygi as the sole beneficiary, court documents state.

Authorities said the person hired to kill Gygi’s husband was paid $600 and promised the title to a Dodge Stratus, the ex-husband’s online business and a residence in California.

The person who was hired is now a cooperating witness for the FBI. The witness told special agents he had no intention with going forward with the murder plot and risked violating his parole by traveling to Utah and warning the ex-husband.

Records show several recordings between Gygi and the cooperating witness were made. In one meeting, Gygi agreed using a vehicle to kill her ex-husband may not be a good idea because it could just leave him injured.

During a separate conversation, the two talked about using an “untraceable” firearm. The gun would come from a third party.

On July 10, 2015, Gygi met with the man she hired to kill her ex-husband at the Gateway Mall in Springfield, authorities said. There, she gave the informant a 9mm handgun, a box of ammunition and $40.00 to buy a magazine for the handgun, court documents state. The informant was also given the promised Dodge Stratus.

Gygi has pleaded not guilty to the grand jury indictment she faces. Her trial is scheduled for February 2017.
