CA investigating 33 allegedly fraud voter registration forms in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney Howard Gwynn says he is investigating 33 allegedly fraudulent voter application forms.

Gwynn tells 10 On Your Side he is looking to figure out who filled out the applications.

A registrar first alerted Gwynn  about the first of the forms two weeks ago. The rest of the forms were sent to him last week.

Gwynn said Wednesday that he is not sure how the alleged fraud could have happened, but is looking into how third-party groups may have gotten the information on the forms.

According to Gwynn, third-party organizations sometimes try to register for people, but that the information submitted can be inaccurate or wrong.

In Virginia, it is a felony to put materially false information on a voter registration form – with punishment ranging from one to 10 years in prison.
