Holcomb looking to Trump for help

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Eric Holcomb trails in the polls but the GOP candidate for governor remains upbeat as the campaign enters the final days.

Holcomb is looking for help from Donald Trump.

Trump has a large lead over Hillary Clinton in Indiana and a big question that will be answered on Election Night is this: Will Trump supporters also vote for Republicans who are running in statewide races?

Holcomb believes that will happen. Recent polls show him trailing Democrat John Gregg by five or six points despite the fact that Indiana is a Republican state.

Holcomb took his campaign to Greenfield Wednesday where he met with local supporters and GOP leaders. He continues to play up his connections to former governor Mitch Daniels.

“I’m seeking to take this state to the next level,” he said. “I want to be as bold as the last two administrations have been. I don’t want to just stay on the same path, I want to stay on the same trajectory.”

Earlier in the campaign Holcomb waffled over supporting Trump. His current enthusiasm is just one sign that Trump has been rebounded in Indiana polls.

“People are craving a different direction for the nation as well,” he said. “So, I think it’s going to be a big statement night in Indiana for Donald Trump to get this country back on track.”

Democrat John Gregg is in the middle of a statewide bus tour that took him to Fort Wayne Wednesday. He needs to hope that a significant number of Trump supporters will either skip the governor’s race or cross over to vote for him.
