First responders get training on alternative-fueled vehicle fires

SEYMOUR, Ind. (WISH) — First responders from around the state gathered in Seymour Friday for training on how to respond to alternative-fueled vehicle fires.

Train the Trainer is a course offered by the National Fluid Power Association.

It aims to help firefighters, police and paramedics stay safe around vehicles fueled by alternative methods, including electric, hybrid and fuel cell, in emergency situations.

On Thursday, Indianapolis firefighters battled an electric vehicle fire when a Tesla crashed into a tree and exploded. Two people died in the crash, and Tesla issued a statement on Friday.

Friday’s training was made possible through grant funding from the Department of Energy.
