Indy With Kids: Where to play when your kids love music

Have you ever seen a little baby start moving when they hear music? Music is packed with power and can bring on movement and emotion. When children have an opportunity to make music, they are exploring and learning new things. The educational and personal benefits to learning how to make music are countless, and Indianapolis has an abundance of opportunities for kids to be a part of active music experiences.

Michelle McNally, from Indy with Kids, shares a few places kids can immerse themselves into a music-making experience!

The littlest ones will love Mrs. Ashley’s Music Circle. For about 40 minutes every week, Mrs. Ashley runs a robust music program for preschoolers (and babies). Children will sing along, dance, play toy instruments, work on rhythm and hear stories through song. Ashley Robertson provides this program in exchange for donations for local homeless shelters.

Carmel Symphony Orchestra Family Fun Concert and $5 Youth Pass. Children age 18 and under are invited to attend CSO performances for only $5. Also, in the Spring, the CSO hosts a concert that is designed especially for children! Kids can sit on the stage among the orchestra, and after the concert, they can participate in an instrument petting zoo and try out the instruments for themselves.

Every Thursday evening, your family can head out to Bongo Boy Music School for their free Community Drum Circle. All ages are invited to come out and drum together, and have fun moving and grooving! Bongo Boy also offers private lessons and group classes.

Rhythm! Discovery Center is a percussion museum, but you can make your own music in the Groove Space. Check out the bongos, sample the array of small percussion instruments, or rock out in the drum sets in the sound-isolating practice rooms.
