Monumental Marathon draws 19,000 runners to downtown Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A record number of runners participated in the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon on Saturday morning.

A combined 19,000 people were expected to run in the marathon, half marathon, 5K race and fun run. The marathon and half marathon were both sold out.

The race impacted both drivers and bus riders. Several roads were closed until approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Congratulations to Sasha Gollish from Canada for setting a course record in the women’s half marathon with a time of one hour and 11 minutes. Ross Hughes from Avon came in first in the men’s 5K race, and Rebecca Tracy from Indy crossed the finish line first in the women’s 5K.

The marathon, half marathon, 5K and Kids Fun Run all started at Capitol Avenue and Washington Street ended on Washington Street just west of Senate Avenue.
