Early voting Sunday receives high turnout in Marion County

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Thousands of people voted early in Central Indiana this weekend.

More than 4,000 people voted in Marion County Saturday and almost 4,500 people made their voices heard early on Sunday.

Those in line at the City-County Building Sunday said the wait was approximately one hour and 30 minutes.

Early voting started on October 12. Since then more than 40,000 people have voted early in person in Marion County, that’s up from 2012 but still down about 36 percent from 2008 when about 64,000 people voted early at this same time that year.

Long early voting lines like these have been seen in counties across the state. Prior to this weekend, more than 40,000 people had voted early in Hamilton county — more than double the number in 2008 & 2012.

Early voting in Marion County continues until noon on Monday.
