Indiana Democratic Party sends incorrect polling locations via text

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Thousands of registered voters received text messages directing them to the wrong polling location on Election Day.

The Indiana Democratic Party took responsibility for the error, saying there was an error in its text message program.

The Indiana Democratic Party experienced a data-match error in our get-out-the-vote text message program to Democratic voters. We believe the error impacted less than 2,000 voters, informing them of an incorrect polling location. We are correcting the error now with a new message directing the voters impacted to www.indianavoters.com so that they are able to confirm their polling location. As the IDP has always done, we will continue to encourage all Hoosiers to participate in the election process and cast their ballots in tomorrow’s election, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Text messages showing an incorrect time for voting were also received by some.

24-Hour News 8, asked the Marion County Clerk’s Office about the glitch in the Democratic Party’s system.

“We wanted to make sure we were not quick to make any assumptions on what was going on with those text messages, I’m glad we do have an explanation on what occurred,” said Deputy Marion County Clerk, Russell Hollis.
