Man wanted for robbing adult daycare, Castleton mall

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – There is an active warrant for the arrest of a man who stole porch furniture at an adult daycare in Broad Ripple last month, as well as items from the Castleton Mall.

According to an affidavit, police are looking for 46-year-old Jerry Gammon in connection to two robberies.

The first robbery happened Sunday, Oct. 23 outside of Joy’s House located at 2028 Broad Ripple Avenue. The entire theft was caught on video.

In the video you see a man pull up in a U-Haul Truck. He walks to the porch, when he gets there a motion-activated camera is tripped.

He’s seen walking away with two chairs, and then he comes back and steals the mums.

Police said the man in the video made no attempt to cover his face. The suspect in the video is described as:

  • Black male
  • Under 6 feet tall
  • Thin build
  • Wore a light blue or gray stocking cap, blue jeans, and an outer flannel shirt or jacket

Julie Prather, the manager of Joy’s House, told police the patio furniture that was taken was a table, two chairs and a flower pot. Prather said the purchase price for the furniture was $3,437.50, according to an affidavit.

Police said on Oct. 27 around 3:58 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to the 3700 block of Hillside Avenue after an anonymous caller reported a black male with a U-Haul truck was parked at the garage in the alley, and they recognized the individual from the news. The caller told police the suspect was a black male, 5 foot 7 inches, thin build, and was wearing a green flannel.

According to an affidavit, when officers arrived they made an unrelated arrest of Jerry Gammon. Police determined the U-Haul was rented from 4530 North Keystone Avenue on Oct. 7 and it had not been returned. Police were able to identify Gammon as the person in the video footage.

On Oct. 28, police met with a woman who works at the location the recovered U-Haul was rented from and returned to after it was found. Police were given the rental documents for the U-Haul that been rented to a person under the name of Jerry Lee, who provided a license with the same date of birth and driver license number as Jerry Gammon.

Police said Gammon has the middle name of Lee and it’s believed the information was copied incorrectly from his license at the time of the rental. The address and number provided at the time of the rental was the address and phone number for Gammon’s mother, the affidavit states.

In addition, during the investigation police learned a Kiosk operated by JTC Wholesale located inside the Castleton Mall had items stolen from the Kiosk on or around Oct. 23. Police said the stolen items had not been reported. Police said they were able to obtain footage involving the theft.

Police said Gammon was in the footage and made no attempt to cover his face as he entered the mall on Oct. 23 at approximately 10:29 p.m. Officers said the footage showed Gammon enter a south entrance next to Sears wearing the same stocking cap and shirt that was under the flannel shirt or jack from the Joy’s House footage. Between 10:29 p.m. and 10:37 p.m., Gammon is seen exiting the store on three separate occasions. An affidavit said he was seen with a total of eight drones as well as additional unidentified boxes. On Oct. 24, police said Gammon was caught on footage entering the mall at approximately 5:03 a.m., wearing the same clothes from the Joy’s House footage including the flannel.

On Nov. 1 at approximately 10 a.m., an officer met with the manager of the Castleton Mall JTC Kiosk who confirmed the theft from the location on Oct. 23. They manager also reported 10 drones were stolen. He believes two pairs of shoes may have been stolen from another Kiosk that they run. He said the total value for the shoes was $60.00. The drones stolen came out to be a total value of $580.00.

Police said on Feb. 9, 2014, Gammon’s had a prior conviction for theft in Marion County.

Gammon is charged with two counts of theft and one count of burglary.
