Bellwether: Another election, another correct prediction by Vigo County

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Since 1888 Vigo County has voted for the winning candidate in a presidential election, only missing the mark two times.

And after last night’s results, it looks like we’re on track to continue to be a bellwether county!

For weeks, media outlets across the country had their eyes on Vigo County as election night approached. Many thought we were going to have it wrong this year.

But, Vigo County continued to predict correctly, and whether you’re happy or not, Donald Trump will be the next president of the Untiled States.

So, how did we get to this point?

Remember back on May 1 when Donald Trump visited Terre Haute at the Indiana Theatre?

Many of you, the voters, turned out to show your support and told us how excited you were to vote.

“He says what he means and he’s going to do what he says.”

Let’s take a look back at what Donald Trump had to say during his speech:

“I’m worried about one thing, America first. We will build a wall, believe me, 100 percent. We will build a wall. We’re going to make America great again.”

News 10 also held a Presidential election poll over on WTHITV.com. There voters cast their votes to predict the outcome of this election.

We received a total of 558 votes from Vigo County, and turns out many of you voted for Trump as well! 308 to be exact.

Fast forward to the actual election; in Vigo County 21,924 voted for Trump. That is 54 percent of the vote and a win for Trump.

I guess our Bellwether status stays true for now. We’ll test it again in another four years.
