Family of interstate shooting victim praying for closure one year later

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The family of a man, who was found shot in his truck on I-70 are praying for closure almost one year later.

Indiana State Police said 30-year-old Derrick Gregory died from his injuries on Thanksgiving Day of last year.

Chrissy Gregory told 24 Hour News the investigation into her brother’s death went from being a possible case of road rage to a murder.

They are quickly approaching the one year anniversary of his death and still no answers on a potential motive or suspect.

“Any small little detail could help break this open and Derrick deserves justice,” she said.

Gregory said this past year has been a slow-moving torture for her family.

“I think if we had answers it would put some of our family members mindset ease,” she said, “I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s going through that day to day torture of not knowing it’s just hard.”

Her brother Derrick was found shot in his truck on I-70 last November.

Indiana State Police said his truck crashed onto the guard rail near mile marker 89. Derrick was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died on Thanksgiving Day.

Detectives told the family they believe he was shot somewhere else and drove onto the interstate.

“We desperately need that closure it’s hard to sleep at night some nights not knowing what happened to your little brother,” she said.

Chrissy said nearly a year has passed since his death and still no leads in the case.

“It’s unimaginable that somebody doesn’t know something,” she said.

But she remains hopeful that someone will come forward with information.

“I know that justice will be served in some way or another,” she said. “I just have faith.”

Chrissy said not a day goes by where she doesn’t think about her brother and his laughter.

“Absolutely his laugh, 110% his laugh,” she said. “His nothing can ever get me down happy spirit.”

Chrissy and her family are now planning to celebrate her brother’s life by sharing stories and memories on the one year anniversary of his death.

“We’re going to celebrate him that day that’s not going to be a negative day this year,” she said. “It’s going to be a positive day we have to make it that way.”
