INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is looking for an accused arsonist.

On Friday, around 4 a.m., a man walks into a laundry room at the Motor 8 Inn.

The motel sits on Shadeland near East 38th Street. Once inside the suspect looks around, and suddenly he starts dousing the room with gasoline, then strikes a match and watches it burn.

The unknown man left in a gray sedan which is caught on tape leaving the parking lot.

The cameras at the motel are pretty clear, but it’s unclear if the cameras were able to pick a license plate number of the vehicle in question.

Employees say it doesn’t appear that the suspect ever stayed at the motel.

“I was shocked, I was shocked, we got rooms on both sides of the laundry room,” said Martha Martindale.

A firewall kept the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.

The blaze caused several thousand dollars worth of damage.

Police said the suspect left in a silver four door car.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may be eligible for a $1,000 cash reward if the information leads to a felony arrest.
