INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The identity of the person who was killed at an Indianapolis recycling facility early Thursday morning has been identified.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office said 31-year-old Michael Burris died of blunt force trauma to the head, body and extremities at Plastic Recycling Inc.

IMPD said its officers received a call to respond just after 1:30 a.m. They were told the accident was fatal before their arrival.

An officer on scene told 24-Hour News 8 that the worker was attempting to clear a jam of material from one of the facility’s machines when the accident happened.

IMPD said its early investigation indicated that the machine had been shut off but somehow activated.

Police did not know how many employees were working in the facility at the time of the accident.

24-Hour News 8 has reached out to Plastic Recycling Inc. for comment. A message was left before corporate offices were schedule to open on Thursday.
