INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A police standoff on the southeast side of Indianapolis ended without incident early Friday morning and a suspect was taken into custody.
Police were called to a home near Southeastern Avenue and Franklin Road just after 2 a.m. for a domestic dispute.
SWAT responded after a 38-year-old man inside refused to let a 35-year-old woman and her 7-year-old son out of the house. The boy’s 14-year-old brother was able to get out of the home and call police.
The man, identified as Thomas Yates, kept telling police he would come out in five minutes, but he never did.
Around 5:30 a.m., two flash bang grenades were used as SWAT entered the house. Yates was taken into custody and no one was hurt. Police say he may have had a pocket knife but was otherwise unarmed.
Yates faces multiple charges including, violating a court order since the woman had a restraining order against him and domestic battery.
