Jackson County accident leaves 3 children in critical condition

CROTHERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Four children have been airlifted to a hospital to treat life-threatening injuries following a crash Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said the accident happened at 4 p.m. on Interstate 65 near the 38 mile marker in Jackson County.

Early investigations by the Indiana State Police have determined that a 2012 Dodge van swerved to avoid a stalling vehicle when it was struck by a 2004 Mercury.

The driver of the van, 41-year-old April K.Bickel, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital to treat her injuries.

An 8-year-old girl, 6-year-old girl and 2-year-old boy were all in the vehicle with Bickel at the time of the accident. All three were air lifted to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky for life-threatening injuries.

Another 4-year-old girl was transported to the same hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
