Decorating Monument Circle for Circle of Lights continues Monday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Crews will continue to decorate Monument Circle on Monday to prepare for the annual Circle of Lights holiday kickoff.

On Saturday, Monument Circle turned into the Circle of Lights, after 200 electricians strung up 4,784 lights and worked with two miles of garland and six miles of electrical wire.

It has been a holiday tradition in Indianapolis for 54 years.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #481 has been the group both installing and taking the lights down since the start.

On Monday, 20 artificial trees and four lighted wreaths will be set up around the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. The lights will be on the Sailors and Soldiers Monument until early January.

On Tuesday, crews will place toy soldiers, toy sailors, and peppermint sicks around the circle.

The winner of the Carson’s Coloring Contest will help turn on the lights. Kids ages 3-12 can participate. For more information on that, click here.

More than 100,000 people are expected to be here for the event and Downtown Indy, Inc. said millions of people will stop by Monument Circle to see the lights during the holiday season.
