‘We’re going to finish strong:’ VP-elect Pence vows to finish IN governor term

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Before Vice President-elect Mike Pence heads to Washington D.C., he’s determined to finish strong in Indiana.

Visiting the Statehouse, and his office, is a little different for the Vice President-elect. On Monday, he took a two hour trip, which created a large security presence.

But it was a necessary disruption for the outgoing governor as he held a final cabinet meeting. “Good to be home,” Vice President-elect Pence said. “Back home again.”

For an hour, Vice President-elect Pence met with his team. There was excitement over his new role, but also for the man taking his seat. Eric Holcomb.

With two months to go, the two said the transition process started election night. Before January, Holcomb will hire a number of people, and pick his own cabinet.

“I anticipate on making some announcements in the next coming days that I think you’ll be equally excited about,” Indiana Governor-elect Holcomb said.

Vice President-elect Pence said he wants to finish his term as governor, but at Monday’s meeting, he made it clear, he’s focused on the country as well.

“I’ve been honored also to work on another transition,” Vice President-elect Pence said. “My duties as this chair of the presidential transition team will take me to Washington and New York on a regular basis.”

Vice President-elect Pence said he’s interviewing people for the new D.C. administration. Even with a new role, and tighter security, the Hoosier native said he won’t leave without seeing the job through.

“We’re going to finish strong,” Vice President-elect Pence said. “We’re going to roll our sleeves up, and finish this job and hand the keys to this administration to this state government over to this new team coming in.”

This is the first Indiana cabinet meeting in months. The last one took place in July. Of course, that was the month Pence signed onto the Trump ticket.
