First snowflakes possible this weekend after near-record warmth

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A lot of ups and downs are expected over the next several days across central Indiana.

The unusually warm temperatures continue through the work week. Highs will top out in the low to mid-60s on Wednesday, with 70s possible for most of central Indiana Thursday and Friday. The record high for Thursday in Indianapolis is 77 degrees. The record on Friday is 73 degrees.

The warm temperatures will come with strong winds, ahead of a powerhouse storm system that will move through the Central Plains by the end of the work week. Gusts on Friday afternoon could get up to 40 miles per hour.

A strong cold front will bring showers, with a few gusty thunderstorms to central Indiana late Friday afternoon and evening. Winds will remain strong as the storm system passes through.

Following the front, the coldest air of the season will rush into central Indiana. With strong northwest winds coming in, a few rain/snow showers will be possible Saturday morning and afternoon, especially north of I-70. No accumulation is expected.

Along with our chance of our first snowflakes, temperatures will quickly fall throughout the day on Saturday. Highs will start in the mid 40s in the morning, quickly falling through the afternoon. With strong winds, it will feel much colder. Wind chills Sunday morning will fall to the teens under clear skies.

The Storm Track 8 team is also tracking the potential for rain for parts of the midwest next Wednesday, the busy travel day before Thanksgiving.
