Lids Foundation donates $10k to provide Christmas toys for kids

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – It’s the season of giving, and Indianapolis-based sports hat maker Lids is wasting no time giving back to the community.

The Lids Foundation presented a $10,000 check to the “Put a Smile on a Kids Face Christmas Toy Giveaway” Tuesday afternoon.

The money came from a bowling fundraiser last month that featured over 50 celebrities, including 30 members of the Indianapolis Colts.

The donation will help the efforts of Colts players Robert Mathis and D’Qwell Jackson, along with promoter Amp Harris as they team up again this year to raise money for clothes and toys for kids in need this Christmas.

“Kids need hope,” said Harris. “They need to be able to see things that are positive, like Robert Mathis take time out to be a part of something like this. And coming from a single-parent home, this really hits close to the heart.”

The toy drive hopes to raise $25,000 this year, which will allow organizers to help 1,000 kids.

“Christmas Day, toys are everything to kids,” Mathis said. “And so if you don’t have any toys, their soul will hurt, man, and it will hurt for months. It’s great what Amp is doing to have these presents for the kids and to make a brighter Christmas for them.”
