Lizton Fire Department receives pet oxygen masks

LIZTON, Ind. (WISH) — The Lizton Fire Department announced they will now be equipped with tools to help save the life of pets during a fire.

Invisible Fence of Central Indiana donated two pet oxygen mask kits to the department. The masks will help firefighters and EMS staff give oxygen to pets who might be suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire.

The donation is part of Invisible Fence Brand’s Project Breathe program. They are aiming to give every fire station in America and Canada pet oxygen masks. So far they’ve donated 12,400 pet oxygen masks.

It’s not clear how many pets die in fires each year in the U.S., but it’s estimated that 40,000 to 150,00 die each year due to smoke inhalation.
