New Greenwood Middle School vandalized

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — Greenwood police are investigating after a middle school under construction was broken into and vandalized.

24-Hour News 8 partner The Daily Journal reports additional cameras are being installed at the new Greenwood Middle School after employees discovered it had been vandalized overnight last Wednesday.

Walls were spray-painted — including one with a large smiley face — and covered in caulk, Greenwood police said. Damage is estimated at $1,500.

Construction started last year on the 160,000-square-foot building near Freedom Park. It’s set to open next school year.

Motion-detecting cameras have been installed since Wednesday, and Greenwood police say additional officers will be patrolling the area.
