Obama: ‘I think he’s sincere in wanting to move this country forward’

(WISH) – In a press conference Monday, President Barack Obama opened up about his meeting with the president-elect, and why he feels hopeful about the country’s future.

Four days after their meeting, Obama shared some details with the public from their private 90-minute conversation.

“My advice as I’ve said to the president-elect when we had our discussions, was that campaigning is differing from governing. I think he recognizes that. I think he’s sincere in wanting to be a successful president and moving this country forward,” Obama said.

Obama also addressed the concerns some have regarding certain minority and religious groups.

“It’s really important to try to send some signals of unity and to reach out to minority groups or women or others that were concerned about the tenor of the campaign.”

Sunday night during President-elect Donald Trump’s first TV interview since the election, he asked his supporters to not harass minorities.

“I would say don’t do it, that’s terrible, because I’m going to bring this country together.” Trump said during his interview. “I am so saddened to hear that. and I say, stop it. If it– if it helps. I will say this right to the camera and I will say stop it.”
