Sheriff’s office: No crime committed in death of ISU student

CLARK COUNTY, IL. (WTHI) – The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says it determined “no crime was committed” in the death of Indiana State University student Yiorgo Karnezis.

On October 23, reports stated a person had fallen from a small boat into a pond. Officials arrived on scene to find Karnezis. He was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital where he later died.

According to autopsy results, Karnezis died as a result of an accidental drowning.

He was a freshman at the university. The school went on to say that he died during an overnight social event for Sigma Chi Fraternity near Marshall, Illinois. ISU confirms they have suspended all operations of the Sigma Chi Fraternity as protocol while officials investigate.
