Ceremony commemorates decade of Indiana inmate apprenticeship program

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A celebration was held at the Indiana Statehouse Wednesday morning for a program that’s turned lives around for a decade.

The Indiana Department of Corrections is commemorating 10 years of the U.S. Department of Labor’s apprenticeship program in Indiana.

Inmates have the opportunity to learn skills while serving out their sentences.

These program is designed to give offenders the opportunity to get jobs and stay trouble-free once let out.

Officials say the collaborative effort between Indiana DOC and the U.S. DOL has made this the largest prison apprenticeship program in the nation.
