Taxpayers may have to wait longer for refunds next year

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Taxpayers may have to wait longer for refunds next year, and office depot is under fire for possibly unnecessary computer fixes.

Millions of Americans may get their tax refunds later than normal next year.

The problem is a new federal law called The Path Act.

It requires the IRS to hold any refunds for returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit until Feb. 15, 2017. That effects about 30 million taxpayers, about half of whom file early to get their returns as soon as possible.

In other business headlines, Office Depot allegedly diagnosed computers with non-existent viruses to meet sales goals.

A Seattle TV station reported employees of the Office Supply retailer allege that pressure to sell protection plans and other services has led store staffers to misdiagnose computers with viruses.

Office Depot said it has opened its own investigation into the claims, noting that it in “no way condones any of the conduct that is alleged” and will “take appropriate action.”
