1 in critical condition after shooting on near northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person is in critical condition after a shooting on the city’s near northwest side.

The shooting happened in the 2300 block of Lafayette Road just after 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

According to police, a man in his 30s was driving northbound on Lafayette Road when shots were fired. The driver of the vehicle was struck and then ran into a utility pole, snapping it in half. Police say at this point it appears he was the intended target.

The driver was transported to the hospital in what police called very critical condition.

Multiple shell casings have been recovered at the scene.

One man working across the street said he heard a loud crash when it happened.

“As terrifying as it is, it is sad that it happens in the streets all the time. I just hope that America changes, I really do because it’s ridiculous. This happens all the time and you shouldn’t have to fear going down the street,” said Quinton White. White works across the street from where the crash happened.

Police said there were no reports of any other injures in the incident.
