1 killed in Parke County accident

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – One person is dead following an accident in Parke County.

It happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in the area commonly referred to as the “Lyford S Curves”.

The Parke County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a one-vehicle accident with injuries. When they arrived, police found a woman unresponsive and trapped in the vehicle.

Officials said rescue crews were able to remove the woman and performed CPR. Police said she was revived and taken to Union Hospital Clinton and later airlifted to Indiana Methodist where she died. Officials are not releasing her name at this time.

Police said evidence at the scene, along with witness statements, show that a white SUV was traveling north on US Highway 41 and entered into a curve. Police said the SUV failed to make the curve and ran off the roadway, causing the vehicle to flip over and come back to rest on all four tires.

Police said alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.
