Fire evacuates residents of northwest side apartment

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Fire Department is looking into the cause of an early morning fire on Sunday.

Authorities said the fire occurred just before 6:00 a.m. at The Woods apartment complex in the 3200 block of Nobscot Drive.

With the exception of heavy smoke, the fire was contained to the inside of the apartment doorway.

It is reported that 12 tenants had to find alternate housing for the day.

No injuries were reported, but three individuals needed to be rescued from a third floor balcony. A 10-year-old boy and his mother were both transported to IU Health Methodist hospital for checkout, while a 45-year old woman was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital for a pre-existing condition.

Early estimations have the fire damages at $5,000.

An investigation concluded that the fire was likely set intentionally.
