Pursuit ends with suspect in custody

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A police pursuit ended Monday just after 12:30 p.m. with a serious violent felon in custody.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect, 29-year-old Johnathan Baker, was located in the parking lot of the White Castle in the area of 38th Street and Moller Road.

Responding officers attempted a traffic stop, as they also placed their vehicles to keep Baker from fleeing in his vehicle. However, a vehicle pursuit then ensued as Baker rammed a police vehicle in order to exit the parking lot.

Baker then exited his vehicle in the Oaks of Eagle Creek Apartment Complex and attempted to evade officers on foot. Baker was eventually apprehended with the help of a K-9 officer.

The K-9 officer was taken in for evaluation for possible minor injury. Police said Baker allegedly punched the K-9 officer in the face.

Baker’s arrest was apart of an investigation into Baker’s whereabouts, who also had an active warrant out for his arrest.

In addition to his warrant for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, Baker also faces several preliminary charges including criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement by fleeing on foot and in a vehicle and battery of a police K-9.
