Indiana lawmakers to help build Habitat for Humanity home

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana lawmakers and Habitat for Humanity are raising private money to help construct a home for a low-income family.

A bipartisan group of legislative leaders announced Tuesday that the money will be raised through a new and used tool drive, as well as by soliciting donations.

Lawmakers plan on constructing wall panels for the home on the south lawn of the statehouse in March. The panels will then be transported to the site of a home, where they will be installed.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit group that relies on volunteers to help build homes for low income people. The non-profit says homes are sold at an “affordable” price with an interest-free mortgage to people who are accepted into the program.
