Study: Rate of people dying from infectious diseases going down

(WISH) – New research says the rate of people dying from infectious diseases is going down.

The study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association said more than five percent of all deaths in the U.S. over the last 25 years have been caused by infectious diseases.

Scientists said they have been on a steady decline over the past two decades.

The study said the most of those deaths were from the flu and pneumonia.

Scientists attribute the decline to what they call “anti-retroviral therapy” which is used to fight HIV.CNN contributed to this report.
