Police: 3 people in critical condition after wrong way driver on SR 25

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office said three people were taken to the hospital after a driver was going the wrong way on State Road 25 early Thursday morning.

According to a press release, around 12:15 a.m., Grant Cottingham of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of SR 25, also known as the Hoosier Heartland Highway, when he collided head-on into a vehicle driven by Robert Ashbaugh of Logansport.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be removed by the Buck Creek Fire Department.

Cottingham and Ashbaugh were taken to Indianapolis area hospitals. William Cottingham, a passenger in Grant Cottingham’s car, was taken to a Lafayette hospital.

At last check, all three men are in critical condition.

Deputies say alcohol and controlled substances are suspected to be a factor in the crash.

State Road 25 North was closed for about four hours as the Tippecanoe County F.A.C.T. team investigated the crash.
