122 million people expected to shop online on Cyber Monday
WHITESTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — The holiday shopping marathon continues with Cyber Monday. Retailers like Amazon, Target and Wal-Mart will offer major discounts exclusively online.
The National Retail Federation expects 122 million people to shop online on Cyber Monday, up from 121 million in 2015. The NRF predicts more than 11 million people will shop online while at work Monday.
The Amazon fulfillment center in Whitestown is especially busy on Cyber Monday. Amazon is offering 75,000 deals during “Cyber Week.” Amazon.com customers will find new discounts as often as every five minutes. You can find deals here.
Last year on Cyber Monday, the company said customers ordered more than 54 million items — 629 items per second.
Retailers like Wal-Mart and Target are offering major online markdowns for Cyber Monday as well. To compete with Amazon, Walmart kicked off its cyber deals on Black Friday. The retail giant will launch additional deals for Cyber Monday. You can find Wal-Mart’s discounts here.
Target is offering 15 percent off nearly everything on its website for Cyber Monday. Best Buy, JC Penney, Toys R Us and Kohls are more big names offering online deals.
Research firm comScore had predicted online spending on Cyber Monday will jump to $3.5 billion from $3.12 billion last year. The firm’s preliminary holiday shopping forecast, which includes November and December, is for online sales to rise as much as 19 percent to $81 billion.
Overall, the National Retail Federation trade group is forecasting holiday sales for the November and December period to rise 3.6 percent to $655.8 billion, better than the 3 percent growth seen in the year-ago period.The Associated Press contributed to this report.
