INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on I-465 NB near West 71st Tuesday evening.
According to Indiana State Police Dispatch, the fatal accident involved two vehicles and occurred near the 21.1 mile marker around 6:30 p.m.
Police initially responded to the area for an accident with personal injury. After arriving on scene, officers discovered that a 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by 32-year-old Oluwasen Oladele, struck a 2013 Ford Escape pulling a U-Haul trailer.
An early investigation indicates that the Escape, driven by 40-year-old Fambridge Conway, was in the left emergency lane of I-465 NB disabled at the time. It was at that time that the Camry hit the rear end of the U-Haul, pushing it into the Escape. Fambridge Conway and the passenger of the Escape, 13-year-old Malcolm Conway, were outside of the vehicle during the collision.
As a result of the collision, Fambridge Conway became entrapped underneath the Toyota Camry. She was later extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital in either serious or critical condition. The teen, Malcolm Conway, was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this point it is unclear why Oladele ran into the U-Haul and if the Ford Escape was completely in the emergency lane or not.
