President-elect Donald Trump expected to announce more cabinet picks

INDIANAPOLIS Ind. (WISH) – President-elect Donald Trump is expected to announce more cabinet picks on Tuesday. Specifically, it’s expected that Trump will announce the head of the Health and Human Services Department and Secretary of State.

According to report, Trump will announce Georgia Representative Tom Price to head the Department of Health and Human Services. Price is a longtime critic of Obamacare and many expect him to lead the change to reform the law.

Price, an orthopedic surgeon for 20 years also chairs the House Budget Committee. He has authored several versions of an Obamacare replacement plan. His plan bears many similarities to Trump’s vision for health care reform and to House Speaker Paul Ryan’s overhaul proposal. Price’s most recent bill, the Empowering Patients First Act of 2015, includes tax credits for buying private policies and putting money in health savings accounts.

The credits would be adjusted by age, ranging from $1,200 for those age 18 to 35 to $3,000 for those age 50 and up. It also limits using federal funds to pay for abortions and protects health care providers who don’t want to perform abortions for religious reasons.

President-elect Trump has promised to repeal Obamacare as one of his first acts after taking office on Jan. 20, but he has yet to lay out a detailed plan on how he’d replace it.

Trump is also meeting with contenders for Secretary of State including retired General David Petraeus.

Other contenders for Secretary of State include former Republican nominee Mitt Romney, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
