Trooper, driver sent to hospital after collision

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WISH) – A four year member of the Indiana State Police and a driver of a second vehicle, were sent to the hospital after a crash on State Road 3 in New Castle Thursday morning.

According to police, the crash happened just before 9:30 a.m.

Police said Harold Devine Jr., 82 of New Castle, was southbound on State Road 3 when he tried to turn east onto Trojan Lane, turning into the path of Trooper Jarrin Franklin, 32. Officers said Franklin was unable to stop and hit Devine’s passenger door.

Franklin was treated and released at Henry County Hospital for knee pain. Devine was transported to IU Health’s Ball Memorial Hospital for a possible broken shoulder.

Devine told police he had a flashing yellow arrow during the time of the crash, and didn’t know he was supposed to yield to oncoming traffic before he turned.
