GOP leaders to meet to fill Banks’ state Senate vacancy

WABASH, Ind. (AP) – Republican precinct committeemen in northeastern Indiana’s Senate District 17 will meet this week to select a successor to former state Sen. Jim Banks.

Banks resigned his seat in the General Assembly last month following his election to Congress.

GOP precinct committeemen from the senate district covering all or parts of Grant, Huntington, Wabash and Whitley counties will gather Tuesday evening in Wabash to fill the vacancy created by Banks’ resignation.

Banks had held the seat since 2010. His wife, Amanda, filled the seat on an interim basis in 2015 while Banks served with the U.S. Navy in Afghanistan.

The current term expires in 2018.
