Hagerstown man arrested after police pursuit

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WISH) – A man from Hagerstown was arrested Monday night after he led police on a pursuit through Henry County Monday evening.

According to Instate State Police, the pursuit tarted around 11:15 p.m. when an officer was eastbound on Cherry Street from State Road 3 in New Castle. Police said the officer saw a Chevrolet work van go left of the center lane.

Police said the officer attempted to pull over the van, but the driver refused to stop and turned north on Hawthorne. The driver drove through city streets, ran a stop light on State Road 38 at State Road 3 and continued west out of town. The driver then led police on State Road 103 northbound, where a New Castle officer put down stop sticks. The driver finally stopped after a tire deflated around 11:55 p.m. on State Road 103 at County Road 300 South.

When officers approached the van, they said Christopher Godsey, 31, was driving, and there was a male and female passenger also in the van.

Godsey was arrested and charged with:

  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Driving while suspended
  • Criminal recklessness and reckless driving

The passengers were released on scene and not charged.
