Anderson police investigating two unrelated fatal shootings

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — The Anderson Police Department is investigating two fatal shootings that occurred early Thursday morning.

APD said the two shootings are unrelated.

Crime scene tape is still up outside of a home in the 1000 block of West 1st Street. Police got there just shortly before 2:00 a.m. and found 33-year-old Lindsay Wilkins had been shot.

Police believe the shooting stems from a domestic incident involving her boyfriend. Police said 23-year-old Aaron Toller called to report his girlfriend committed suicide. They later arrested him on a preliminary charge of murder.

“It’s terrible, it’s sad, it’s really sad that violence like that happens not knowing what’s going on in your own next door to you,” said Rachel Medina, neighbor.

Rachel Medina has lived in the neighborhood for many years. She said she woke up and saw flashing lights.

“I saw flashing lights and I had thought I had left my Christmas lights on and I thought they had caught on fire so we kinda jumped up out of bed,” she said. “When we opened the curtains– it was actually police and just the whole street was covered.”

Medina said she did not know the victim, but has seen Wilkins before in passing.

“We said hi, we spoke, they had some little dogs like little chihuahua and the little chihuahua would get out of the fence and I would take it back to her,” she said.

Anderson resident Aaron Toller, 23, has been arrested for the murder of Wilkins. That shooting occurred just before 2 a.m.

Police said the second person, 57-year-old Carlson Conn was found shot and killed inside his home. Edward Shaw talked about Conn, who was his tenant.

“He was a hard worker, he done cement work and he was working yesterday and he got paid yesterday,” said Shaw. “He called me about 3 p.m. and said he would be over to pay me in a few minutes he never did show up.”

Police have not said what led up to the shooting, but they are looking for a person of interest.

“This used to be a pretty nice neighborhood, but I don’t know,” said Shaw. “You don’t know what’s going on anymore.”

Police said the two shootings bring the total number of homicides to five for the city of Anderson. Last year the city had two.

Police are still seeking a suspect in Conn’s murder.
